The meaning of US old-growth forests is slightly different from what one would first think. The US has about 820 million acres of forests. Out of that about about 144 million acres are under the management of the US Forest Service. Out of that, 25 million are deemed old-growth, and fall under this proposal [1].
Kinda funny how "logging in" evokes a completely different concept in most articles on this site. My first thought was that the headline was missing a word: "Logging in TO US Old-Growth..."
Nah. The last time I bought bulbs - from Costco, three-ish years ago, when we moved - they were (I think) $2 apiece. They were more expensive than that the previous time I bought bulbs - ten-ish years ago - but I still have most of those, still working after all this time. I don't think those were 10x incandescents, but even if they were they've long-since paid for themselves in energy savings.
LED bulbs are great. They weren't before 2010 or so, when they couldn't color-match incandescents, but both that and the price issue are solved problems.
Had to buy single E14 for my range hood. First one was pack of 3 of 40W equivalent for 2€. And then later in shop for 3x of 2700K and 400K each of 60W equivalents for 5€.
Less than 1€ a bulb, that is not too much more than standard indecent bulbs... You can get them cheap enough from deals.
I do everything I can to avoid election news. It's so tiring, always dreary and combative. I wonder how many homeless we could put in houses if we didn't spend trillions on the election circus constantly...

He banned incandescent and halogen light bulbs. Goodbye warm, soul-soothing light.
Warm LEDs are a thing. You can buy 2700K CCT LEDs with 90CRI just fine
.. and pay 10 times more.

It's an election year and we don't need HN to be part of the PR imho.
