I've been running websites on WordPress almost as long as WordPress has existed, my oldest site has been running on it continuously for 20+ years[1]. Between forcing Gutenberg into the core (it should have been a plugin), Mullenweg's recent unhinged actions (e.g., the ACF fiasco[2]), the increasing number of naggy subscription-based plugins, and now this contemptible AI integration, I'm going to start the process of migrating my sites, probably to ClassicPress[3].
What do mean? This is a great idea. So now instead of having plugins with security vulnerabilities we also have all kinds of escape scenarios within the main software package. Almost nothing can go wrong. Nothing at all. We need to be forward looking, AI for the win!
Not gonna lie, this gave me quite the shock due to the admin design alone. The new colour scheme is somewhat better described as 'garish' rather than vibrant, and looks like a weird attempt at copying the Windows colour scheme or something.
But hey, maybe it looks better when third party themes and plugins aren't involved, since a fair few of those fail miserably at using the new palette correctly. I remember seeing some buttons with virtually invisible text because of that.
Not really that interested in the whole AI integration thing, though maybe it'll be useful for developers at some point. I know I coded a plugin to use ChatGPT to rewrite articles for a previous company, so maybe that would have been easier to code with this system instead.
I've been a WordPress user for years. I don't want integrated AI. Sure hope I'll be able to ignore it.
I'm probably going to use classic press next time I need a wp like cms (assuming its security doesnt suck).

Oh well, we had a pretty good run.

Great site. I’ve been reading since the beginning. I even copied your format on a shortly lived site about 19 years ago.
This one is my favourite.

Thanks for the kind words!
AI credentials in WordPress, a PHP script. Whatever can go wrong. And who wants that anyway?

AI-Integrated WordPress….still not sure if this is good or bad. It will definitely be a disaster for the revenue of many smb web agencies.
