Hey HN, I build "How Loud Is My Hotel?" as a simple way to check for possible loud noise near a hotel (or any other address) before booking it.

I've had some negative experiences in the past so this automatically checks for things like nearby Clubs, Police Stations with sirens, big roads, railroads etc. and gives you a "noise score" based on them.

It's free, works worldwide and needs no account. It estimates outside noise risk rather than measuring decibels, so building insulation and temporary noise aren’t included.

Hey, this is actually useful but my main concern is around how confident the score feels. A 0–100 quiet score looks very precise, but noise is highly subjective and context-dependent. For example, a stadium 300m away may be silent most days but terrible during events. A helipad 14m away may be rare but very loud when active. Construction can be noisy, but only if it is still active, during working hours, and on the same side of the building.

Right now it feels like the score is mostly based on “noise source exists nearby + distance,” which is a good starting point, but it can create false confidence as well.

I want that but for apartments - when you're looking for a flat to have such score next to the flat I'm looking at
